Login and Log out
There are a number of "problems" if that is the right description with Joomla's login methodology.
If you set up a menu item or a link to the Login Form [to be found in Site Modules] after logging in a page is displayed with an option for the user to change their password. certian sitations this is unacceptable as the password criteria are displayed to the benefit of any would be hacker.
Translation Files
Introduction
Translation files hold the defines used in the manifest file i.e. the ".xml" associated with installling a module or a plugin, and return the text which it is wished to present on screen.
In essence translating is very easy. One simply replaces "some text" with a DEFINE, and the replacement of the DEFINE with "sometext" is held in one of two .ini files which have have two purposes and are named [NAME being just a name] as follows:
- NAME.sys.ini - which is always read when Joomla starts up.
- NAME.ini - which is read when the module or plugin is configured.
Create a grid table
Introduction
I first created a table 3 cols wide .... as here: http://tdocplus.co.uk/wp/about-cemdc
April 2023 - Some excellent news: JCE now displays grids ! But when will we able to add them ?
The next step was to replace all the tables with grids, now successfully done, and the to start formatting as needed.... and one almost immediately realises that grids are really so much better than tables. The BIG question is when is a Joomla Article Editor going to be able to achieve this ? There are editors out there ... but not yet for Joomla apparently. An on line editor: https://grid.layoutit.com/
Configuring Cassiopeia
First of course, one must get the template set up.
There are two main options - the default, basic one which uses the "brand", which gives the opprtunity to enter the Site Title, and the Site Description, and the second option which is turn the "brand" OFF, and create a cutom module in position "below-top" to do what one wants.
These are the steps I have needed:
- Select the Site Template Styles and set:
- Set the Template Preview option in Options.
- Set the [Site] Title and the Tag Line [Site Description].
- Select Modules, and set the Menu module(s) position(s). Also the layout if required.
- Select Site Template, and modify "css" as below.
The template Title and Site Description do not shrink as one might expect. One might expect a long title to wrap on a smaller screen.
