Freedom
On awakening this morning a feeling of calm swept through my body and mind. A free day stretched out lazily before me, a day without work or obligation, a time for leisure amid the bustling pace of modern living. After a light breakfast I go out to roam Linn Park unhindered by the invisible restraining tentacles, those artificial rules and norms, which tend to limit and constrain life.
Entering the park gates the avenue before me is lined with tall and majestic trees, the surrounding field full of meadow flowers, a rainbow of greens, yellows, whites and blues all in full bloom. Step after step the sounds of traffic and the human world beyond the park’s boundary fades and the growing quietness, invites me to slow down and walk more softly. Now and again a fellow wanderer passes and we exchange a simple morning’s greeting, a fleeting moment of connection, which adds to the pleasure of this lovely day.
Breathing deeply of the fragrant air that surrounds me, I am increasingly relaxed and at ease. The voice of birds overhead are my constant companions, the noise of gently rustling leaves caresses my ears and the joy of a path below my feet, all, embrace my senses and comfort my mind. In this limited and busy life, in these moments a time of simple leisure. Here is a place, within a suburban sprawl, where I can let the fetters of responsibility fall from my shoulders, my worries and troubles, I can leave far behind for in the splendour of this place, I feel a pleasing peace penetrate my heart.
